Clear Braces Dentistry

Clear aligner therapy, also known as clear braces or invisible braces, is a technique that has evolved with the dental landscape over the last decade.

Clear braces are a safe and clinically proven alternative to metal braces that produce dramatic results. Almost 80% of the candidates for metal braces can opt for clear aligners for faster and more comfortable results.

What is clear aligner therapy or clear braces?

Clear braces are a clinically proven safe and effective alternative to metal braces that produce powerful results. The procedure is favored by patients and dentists alike. Clear braces therapy is tailored specifically to each individual for optimal results and is more discreet than metal braces. Patients love the fact that the clear braces are virtually invisible and can be removed at anytime.

How long does the clear aligner therapy process take?

Clear braces therapy takes an average of 13 to 16 months to achieve the desired results; however, each case is different and the time period may vary depending on exactly what is being treated. Many times, clear braces are used to treat crooked teeth or adjust spacing issues. Other times, clear braces therapy can be the solution when braces fail to achieve results.

Why is clear braces therapy preferred over metal braces?

Everyone has different preferences, but clear braces seem to be the more appealing choice over metal braces. Since clear braces involve working with clear aligners, they can be easily removed for cleaning without a visit to the dentist. Clear aligners aren’t permanently fixed to teeth, so they can be taken out at a person’s discretion. Another big benefit is that they don’t change a person’s appearance as drastically as traditional metal braces.

Are there age restrictions for clear aligner therapy?

There is no specific age regulation for clear aligner therapy, but it is not recommended for children. All bone formation must be complete and the teeth should be fully erupted to achieve optimal results with this procedure. Although, it is very popular among adults, not everyone is an automatic candidate for this procedure. There are some conditions that must be met to ensure that the process is safe and maximum results can be achieved. Schedule an appointment today to see if you’re a candidate for clear braces

What makes a good candidate for clear aligner therapy?

A good candidate for clear aligner therapy, or clear braces, is an adult with concerns about minor crowding or tooth rotation, concerns about spacing between teeth, as long as it is 5mm or less, or someone who has previously had metal braces and they are not happy with the results or their teeth have relapsed. If you think you may be a candidate or are considering a teeth straightening procedure, Dr. Fung is always happy to evaluate patients and answer all of your questions in detail.

What if I am missing a tooth?

A missing tooth can present issues for clear aligner therapy, but not always. Every patient’s situation is different and the best way to find out if you are a candidate for clear braces is to visit Collaborative Dental for an evaluation and consultation with Dr. Fung and his highly trained staff.

Can I wear clear braces when eating and drinking?

You can drink water with clear braces, but other beverages and foods should be avoided when eating and drinking because debris and sugar can damage aligners. This allows you to enjoy many foods and drinks that would otherwise need to be avoided with regular braces. Make it a habit to brush and floss after eating and before replacing your aligners.

What material is used to create clear braces?

Clear braces are made of high-grade ceramic or plastic composite.

How do clear braces compare to traditional metal braces?

Clear braces remain an attractive option to treat dental issues if the patient wishes to wear something less noticeable, though it may take more time than traditional metal braces. Collaborative Dental’s staff will help you select the best option for your specific oral health needs.

How often do I need to change my invisible braces?

It is recommended that you change the trays for your invisible braces at least every two weeks. If you do not notice any visible improvements to your teeth, you may need to replace your tray sooner or later than this two-week period to give your teeth time to adjust. Consult with your dentist or orthodontist to help determine if the clear aligners are working and whether they need to be changed.

How long will it take to see straighter teeth?

While each patient’s situation is different, many patients with clear braces often begin noticing results in less than six months.

Will clear braces treat issues like jaw misalignment, gaps, buck teeth, TMJ or severe crowding?

Clear braces are effective in treating minor dental issues, such as small gaps between teeth, crooked teeth and misalignment problems. However, pain and symptoms associated with TMJ are not effectively treated with clear aligners.
